Facing your fears 03/11/2008
So, the other day as I was waiting in the orthodontist office, I heard a girl say that she would never ski again because she broke her ankle. I thought that was very sad and even a little silly. I broke my arm standing on a stool, does that mean I should lower all of our cabinets? I injured my tail bone walking down the stairs and couldn't go to band for a week, do I install ramps instead? I don't know how many times I've injured myself in dance, should I quit? They were all freak accidents! In the United States of America alone, every 13 minutes somebody is killed in a car crash. In a year, a single year, 365 days, 1.2 million people world wide are killed from car crashes. That's 1.2 million people no longer among us because of a simple accident, a twist of fate, a miscalculation. Did their loved ones buy horses to ride around town, giving up cars completely? There are people out there who receive life threatening injuries while doing things they loved, sky-diving, parachuting, rafting, whatever, and they continue doing those things! Perhaps if we all were just a little bit braver, a little bit stronger...Just because you get struck by lightning while walking your dog, do you buy a cat? Personal Appearances 03/02/2008
I had a dream a while back and it inspired me to make a new character. Her name is Moon and she has a curse on her so that she is only human under the light of the full moon, at all other times she is the form of a serval with a little gold tiara, a red jewel hanging on her forehead, and a sparkling gold collar with a purple cape. She’s the leader of an Egyptian type people in the rainforest. There are only about a hundred of them but they don’t seem to mind that their princess is a cat. People today care too much about appearances. I consider myself to have a very strong opinion about how you look. I tend to be a nonconformist but not for reasons that would be normal I think. I believe that people should look the same on the outside as they do on the inside. Some people think that I like to show off, draw attention to myself, but I just want people to know who I am and respect me for me, not for something I’m not. Maybe if everyone was like that we’d have more close friends and, who knows, maybe even better relationships! Well, you can only change the world one person at a time, but one person can have a greater impact on the world than they could ever have anticipated, even if it isn’t obvious at first what that impact is or how big it will become. Election time 02/26/2008
Election has come once again to the United States of America. The two that seem to be getting the most attention are Obama and Clinton, both democrats. I started thinking, as I watched all of them being interviewed, about democrats and republicans. Some people only vote for one or the other and don’t even consider the issues it seems. As if they’re taking the safe way out. What they don’t realize, perhaps, is the effect a president has on the country, maybe they think whatever happens won’t affect them or that it’ll all work out in the end, they could always impeach if worst comes to worst. Then I think about the division it causes among most of Americans. What ever happened to “united we stand, divided we fall”? “United” is the first word of our country! Without it we’re just the S.A. which makes people think of essays, the one thing it seems we all have a united opinion about! The TV drama and the stupid jokes about each other, wouldn’t it be worth giving them up and having the U.S.A back? Perhaps instead of democrats and republicans we should just have Americans! |
